Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972 in Houston, Texas, was born in Charleston West Virginia. William John Garner is her father. He worked as chemical engineer for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local university. So that she could follow the tradition of her father, she obtained a degree in chemical engineering. But because she wanted to follow her dream of becoming an actor, she relocated to New York to try her chance in the movie industry. She worked at a restaurant while appearing in Broadway shows. She was in a minor part on "Felicity" (where she also encountered Scott Foley). She got her big break in the action film "Alias." Garner's first lead role was in the acclaimed romantic comedy "13 going on thirty." The film starred her as a teenager who found herself locked in the body the 30-year-old. Garner chose Gary Winick as the director of her film. They continued looking for roles until Winick's passing in 2011. Garner received the title of artist ambassador in 2009 for Save the Children U.S.A. Alongside the promotion of the importance of early education, literacy and nutrition on a national level, Garner's role is also to promote the literacy of all Americans. Garner has been on this board of trustees since 2014. Garner promotes early childhood education. She has been a spokesperson for the Early Steps to School Success Program. She coaches parents on how to best assist their children in learning.
